Visual Storytelling for Public Engagement

Established as Alabama's oldest long-term health care association, the Alabama Nursing Home Association (ANHA) represents a diverse network of skilled nursing facilities committed to excellence in care. In 2017, ANHA sought to enhance public understanding of its role and the services provided by its members through a creative social media campaign.

Design Challenge

ANHA aimed to translate complex health care statistics and facts into engaging visual content for social media platforms. The challenge was to create a series of shareable images that would resonate with the public, accurately represent the association's values, and stand out from typical health care communications.

My Approach

Research & Content Analysis

Reviewed a comprehensive list of nursing home facts provided by ANHA, identifying key messages and themes to highlight.

Concept Development

Developed a cohesive visual language featuring bold colors and playful graphics to convey information in an accessible and appealing manner.

 

Design Execution

Created 30 vector-based illustrations optimized for Facebook sharing, ensuring consistency in style and messaging across all images.

Feedback & Refinement

Collaborated closely with ANHA's communications team, incorporating feedback to fine-tune the visuals and ensure alignment with the association's objectives.

Outcome

The campaign successfully engaged the target audience, with the shareable images receiving positive responses on social media. The visuals were so well-received that ANHA repurposed them into workroom posters and t-shirts, extending the campaign's reach and impact

We gave Sarah examples we did not like from other organizations’ shareable image campaigns and a long list of nursing home facts we wanted her to illustrate. Sarah’s designs far exceeded our expectations! The more than two dozen images were consistent from beginning to end. The target audiences we reached responded favorably to the campaign. Our members were proud of the illustrations and the campaign results. We have since used the style Sarah created for this campaign in numerous print ads.
