Camp Mikell Website Redesign
Established in 1941, the Mikell Camp and Conference Center serves as a year-round retreat for spiritual growth and community engagement within the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta. My journey with Camp Mikell began in 1993 as a middle school camper, later evolving into a professional collaboration when I assumed the role of webmaster in 2007.
Design Challenge
By 2021, the existing website had become outdated, lacking mobile responsiveness and featuring cumbersome navigation that hindered user access to essential information. Budget constraints had delayed necessary updates, resulting in a digital presence that no longer reflected the camp's vibrant community and offerings.
My Approach
Discovery & Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborated with Camp Mikell's leadership and committee members to identify core objectives, user needs, and content priorities.
Information Architecture Overhaul
Redesigned the site's structure to streamline navigation, ensuring that visitors could effortlessly access camp schedules, registration forms, and program details.
Visual Design & Branding
Developed a fresh, cohesive visual identity that balanced a relaxed, welcoming aesthetic with professional functionality. This included updated imagery and a consistent iconography set to enhance user engagement.
Responsive Development
Implemented a mobile-first design strategy to ensure optimal performance across all devices, enhancing accessibility for a diverse user base.
Content Strategy & Copywriting
Refined existing content and crafted new copy to accurately convey Camp Mikell's mission, programs, and community spirit.
Outcome
The redesigned website launched in January 2022, delivering a modern, user-friendly platform that effectively communicates Camp Mikell's offerings and values. The project was completed efficiently, with positive feedback from stakeholders:
Sarah updated our website quickly, efficiently and with a ton of patience. I was working with a committee, so she had a lot of extra input and never expressed anger or frustration. Each request was met in a timely manner and each edit after we launched has been handled promptly.
